VAI Workshop | Communicating Your Practice with Conall Cary (Dublin)

Thursday 21 March, 10.30am to 4.30pm.

For this โ€˜Communicating Your Practiceโ€™ workshop, Conall will cover:

  • The importance of exploring a thematic identity
  • Going outside of your comfort zone
  • Communicating your work to the arts community vs. communicating your work to a non-arts community
  • Public practice vs. Private Practice
  • Building partnerships to help bridge gaps in skillsets/experience
  • Strategic applications
  • Importance of networking and collaboration
  • Importance of social engagement in arts practices today
  • Importance of website and social media
  • Physical presentation of practice: fonts, colours etc.
  • Public Art Commissions
  • Examples of past submissions/proposals
  • An analysis of participants work, social media/websites, and applications submitted
  • There will also be a Q&A session towards the end of the day.

Conall Cary is a visual artist and printmaker based out of Ireland. After studies at the University of Oregon, he went on to study at the Centre for Creative Arts & Media in Galway, where he graduated with a First-Class Honors Degree. Conall has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and internationally, and has completed residencies in Scotland, Finland, Ireland and America. He has been supported by The Arts Council, Galway City Arts Office, Wicklow County Arts Office, and Cork City Arts Office. He has been awarded Per Cent for Art Commissions in Cork (2014/2018), Sligo (2015), Mayo (2017), and Waterford (2019). Since 2014 has worked as Print Media Technician at the C.I.T. Crawford College of Art & Design. He is a member of Cork Printmakers, where he has served on the Board of Directors since 2013.
