18 October to 19 November 2017
The eminent artist Colin McGookin lived and worked in East Belfast for many years and this exhibition brings together many of the paintings he produced when he lived close to what is now the EastSide Gallery. The artworks reflect both the turbulent history of Northern Ireland, as well as the colour, sadness and joy he personally experienced during those years.
Colin was born in Belfast and, after graduating from Art College, he co-founded the Artists Collective of Northern Ireland in 1984 and was one of the founder members of the Queen Street Studios in 1988. He was elected a member of the Royal Ulster Academy, and won first prize at the prestigious Claremorris Open.
His unique style and vision are widely admired and recognised, as he has exhibited across the UK and Ireland, and internationally in France, Poland, the United States and Vietnam. His work is held in many important public and private collections, including the Ulster Museum and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
Curated by the ArtisAnn Gallery.
Part of the CS Lewis Festival.
