This workshop is about creating a canvas using everyday things that we all have around us. Things that are pretty and catch our eye whilst out walking, like a smooth pebble or a striped seashell. Things that collect in the far corner of a drawer, like a broken necklace or and old key. It is an exercise in being creative with what we have available to us, seeing things in a new way, wasting little. Think of the birds when they are nest building using twigs, leaves, animal hair, plastic, anything that would be useful.
These ‘raw materials’ will then be arranged and sewn unto some unbleached Linen cloth to create your own unique story. You will learn various Embroidery techniques for attaching the items and adding decorative detail. Also the Japanese ‘Boro’ technique can be used to layer and stitch fabric.
