Performance Workshop with Áine Phillips at MART, Dublin
In this two day workshop Livestock will explore ‘the activist body’ in theory and in practice. Participants will engage in a series of exercises and games to enable the creation of a new performance art works relating to the topic. The outcome will be a live simultaneous group performance of new devised work on the street/ public spaces adjacent to MART for one hour on Sunday afternoon.
Day 1: Áine will present a wide range of examples of contemporary activist performance and explore the concept in discussion with the group. Other topics explored will be socially engaged practice, social justice and the social body in relation to art and experimental/ applied theatre.The group will physically and creatively engage with a series of performance exercises, with the aim of enabling the development of new ideas for a live public Performance work. By the end of Day 1 each participant will have a plan and homework to prepare for the public performance on Day 2.
Day 2: Áine will facilitate a group discussion where each participant presents their idea and plan to create a performance. Everyone will gain an overview of the public event, a collaborative purpose and an investment in making it a success both for the participants and the public who will witness or become involved. She will help organise and present the live simultaneous group performance that will take place from 3 – 4pm in the streets and spaces adjacent to MART.
