Down County Museum, as part of its ‘Building Positive Relations’ programme funded by the EU PEACE IV initiative, is seeking a facilitator to manage the cross-community production of a history-themed embroidery. The facilitator is required to assist 12 cross-community groups (minimum 100 total participants) spread throughout Newry, Mourne and Down District to work together to create panels for an embroidery inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry. Down County Museum, as part of its ‘Building Positive Relations’ programme funded by the EU PEACE IV initiative, is seeking a facilitator to manage the cross-community production of a history-themed embroidery.
The facilitator is required to assist 12 cross-community groups (minimum 100 total participants) spread throughout Newry, Mourne and Down District to work together to create panels for an embroidery inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry. This work will show key local sites and monuments, which when put together will tell (in a similar style to each other and the Bayeux Tapestry) the story of the Newry, Mourne and Down district from prehistoric to modern times. The facilitator will be required to source and provide good quality linen, thread and natural dyes to provide historic/authentic-looking embroideries, assist groups to select subjects and develop their skills, periodically monitor and guide groups on their meeting days (12 groups: each minimum of 4 visits), and assist groups to meet together at Down County Museum (spring 2019) and at Newry and Mourne Museum (autumn 2019).
The facilitator will also be required to organise/sub-contract 2 days of guided bus trips for groups (summer 2019) in the west and east of the district respectively to visit each other’s sites selected for portrayal in the embroidery, to assist participating individuals to: *dispel myths and perceptions *provide understanding of how our past links to our future *take learning about the past to help build a shared future.
