We Make Good are always on the lookout for new design talent. Over the summer, they have an opportunity for four designers to work with them to develop their own small range of products. Put simply, if you are a product/furniture/textile designer who is motivated by social justice and a fair, equal society, this may be a fulfilling and rewarding opportunity for you.
Behind their design brand lies the best part of their story; all their makers are from backgrounds of disadvantage and are being supported through 15 social-enterprise manufacturing partners to develop skills, engage in paid, meaningful work and make a better life for themselves and their family. Makers come from a variety of backgrounds including refugee, disability, prison/probation and Traveller.
The four selected designers will receive a payment of €500 for design and a portion of the €500 prototyping and materials budget. We Make Good will support prototyping of your product with their manufacturing partners to ensure the products meet standards. Following that, they photograph, launch and market products with the aim of maximising media coverage. We Make Good will sell your products through their own webshop and across multiple platforms, as well as in pop-up shops. Designers receive 5% commission on all sales.
The brand exists to create opportunities and pathways for makers from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as opportunities for Irish designers to bring their ideas to market. If you would like to be part of this project, please email email@example.com with your CV/portfolio, with images of your work, and an outline of your availability, and a description of the product you would like to work on and any images / mood boards to help us understand your design interests. They have capacity to work with the following materials:
- Textile and construction
- Machine knitting
- Weaving / basket making
- Textile Print (screen and block)
- Paper printing (screen and block)
We Make Good will be making decisions on the designers they are working with in mid July, but will accept CVs on an ongoing basis.
If the craft methods you are interested can be taught and is not on this list, let us know, they may be able to find a new partner or develop existing ones.
Also, by sending your CV you are agreeing for them to keep this on file should any other paid design opportunities emerge, which they may contact you about. They are currently developing over 30 products and need occasional contracted design support for this process.
