Open Call | Glassmaking Artist Residencies at North Lands Creative, Caithness, Scotland

Application deadline: Monday 27 November, 5pm

Throughout the year, North Lands Creative offers residency opportunities to professional artists, curators, craft makers and designers who want to develop their work and practice. The selection is highly competitive and they will choose individuals who they believe will make the best use of the facilities they have built for glass-making and who may also have a positive impact on the professional glass community. North Lands Creative offer five strands to their AiR program:

Sustainable Production
Sustainable production residencies are designed to encourage exploration, research, development and experimentation that encourage the development and greater utilisation of eco-design and manufacture principles in glass making. There will be an opportunity to share findings to peers and North Lands Creative visitors via the annual forum and to invite and encourage feedback.

This residency is offered to an artist or designer, who wished to take an already- developed idea to the next stage and produce a limited edition range that is market focused or responds to a design brief from a commissioner.

Socially Engaged
Aimed at artists who are working nationally/ internationally where relevance and needs of the community drive the work, and the community should be involved in shaping the project. The residencies encourage active engagement and collaboration, and an investment overtime to address complex social issues.

New Work/ Bespoke Commission
Aimed at artists, craft makers and designers who are working internationally for whom a change of scenery might offer fresh inspiration; offering the individual dedicated studio time and access to the facilities and technical support with a view to realising a major project or body of work.

Curator in Residency
The residency takes the link between curator and North Lands Creative collection as the starting point from which to explore curatorial practice and the considered understanding of glass making from a public perspective. North Lands will also encourage students who wish to undertake self-initiated curatorial work that reflects the interests and aspirations of North Lands Creative.

Applications may be submitted by email to or North Lands Creative, Quatre Bras, Lybster, Caithness, KW3 6BN.
