Application deadline: 27 September, 5pm.
The Headford Lace Project is a community initiative, established in 2016, to research, revive and reimagine Headford’s lace-making heritage, which dates back to the mid 1700s. The project achieves its objectives through the delivery of skills workshops, arts collaborations and community engagement.
The Headford Lace Project will work with a curator to assemble and exhibit pieces of traditional and contemporary lace from around Ireland and Europe. The exhibition will be creatively installed in the windows of businesses on Main Street, Headford and will form part of the Galway 2020 Small Towns, Big Ideas programme.
This exhibition will feature traditional and contemporary lace (created using a range of techniques and materials) made in Headford as well as submitted pieces from around Ireland and Europe. These pieces will be made in a variety of styles around a given theme (to be decided). This is no ordinary exhibition as Headford does not have a gallery. Instead the chosen pieces will be shown in the business windows of Main Street. Liaising with local businesses and coordinating the creative installation will form a key part of the job.
The Headford Lace Project have also commissioned two artists to create larger pieces which may be outdoors. They anticipate that those artists will install the pieces themselves in conjunction with the curator.
