Mokulito is a Japanese printmaking process based on the principles of lithography, but replaces the use of the traditional stone with a specially prepared plywood matrix. It avoids the use of harsh chemicals or the need for a special lithographic press. The innovation of Mokulito also allowed a blend of techniques such as lithography and woodcut, providing the availability of producing purely lithographic traces and sharp woodcut marks.
During this 4 week evening course you will learn this process from start to finish: how to prepare your wood plate for drawing, how to process your imagery, what tools are used for carving and printing along with tips and tricks for exploring this technique further. Participants will finish with a small edition of prints to take home. Suitable for beginners or printmakers with experience in other techniques. All materials included.
