Copying masterworks is an age-old approach to learning the skills of classical drawing (or painting, for that matter). In this 2-day intensive workshop, students will study academic figure drawing by investigating and copying the renowned figure drawings of Pierre-Paul Prud’hon (1758-1823).
Studies of nudes were usually undertaken during an artist’s education or served as the basis for paintings. This was not the case with Prud’hon; even as a mature artist he drew from life without seeking to exploit the work further in any way.
This workshop will include the study of structure and anatomy of the human figure, gesture and expression, creating the illusion of volume using tonal progressions, and use of pencil and charcoal media.
