Intro to Print Course: Two plate Etching with Monoprint at Limerick Printmakers

LP continues its highly popular series of Introduction to Print courses with an ambitious course aimed at both complete beginners along with those who wish to build on their existing skills in intaglio (etching) and monoprinting. This stimulating course is aimed at those who enjoy creative experimentation while learning important practical skills.

The term intaglio refers to the range of printmaking methods where the image is created by drawing/etching lines/marks into the surface of a plate. When ink is applied to the plate and then wiped off, the remaining ink stays in the lines drawn onto the surface and they form the printed image.

Etching on copper plates captures really fine line and detail and is perfect for those who would like to utilise their skills in sketching and draughtsmanship and create new art work through printmaking.

Monoprints are an ideal form of printmaking for those who would like to incorporate mark-making and painterly effects into their prints through both direct application of ink to a surface plate and through creating textures within the surface ink using everyday implements. Colour can be built up using layers of ink to create real depth within the print.
