9 May, 7pm to 8:30pm.
Competitive Tension is an artist group discussion to be held at The Green on Red Gallery, Dublin 1 on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018, at 7pm. Participating in a conversation initiated and moderated by gallery artist Ramon Kassam are fellow painters Emma Roche, Kevin Cosgrove, Kathy Tynan and Paul Hallahan. The event is taking place against the backdrop of Kassam’s current solo exhibition at the gallery called Study for a Studio by the Sea. Within his show, the artist includes a presentation of other works by studio peers Fiona Burke and Seán Guinan. This presentation titled ‘His Painting Landscape (Bitter Rivals)’ will be a starting point for Competitive Tension.
Wishing to expand on the thematics of rivals and peers within a painting “ landscape “, the panel of painters Kassam has invited together are all working in similar domains, based in Ireland, and in their 30s. They will be talking through mutual concerns and observations that come out of Kassam’s show, and also their wider related and unrelated experiences of the painting landscape in Ireland and how they operate within it. Subjects for discussion will include competitive tension, peer influence, Ireland as a site/country for painting, studios, curators and galleries amongst other topics to emerge. The conversation aims to be frank, funny and insightful for painting enthusiasts.
