This one-day beginners course will provide a brief introduction to two popular forms of relief printmaking – linocuts and woodblocks.
Relief printmaking refers to any form of printmaking where, after carving an image into the surface of a plate, it is the flat uncut surface of a plate that is inked up and printed while the lines and areas removed by cutting remain untouched by ink and create the image.
Tutor Brian Fitzgerald will guide participants through transferring imagery to both linocut and woodblock, best practice and safety when using cutting and carving tools, inking up and registration, and printing using both studio quality presses, along with printing by hand. Blind Embossing will also be taught as part of this course.
Use of all tools and materials are included in the course fee.
For the purpose of this introductory course, work will be created in A5 size.
Participants are encouraged to provide imagery in this size to work from in order to get the most benefit from this course.
Brian Fitzgerald is a highly experienced printmaker, artist and qualified teacher. He is also co-founder and co-director of Parallel Editions, a fine art print editioning company based in Limerick city.
