Vacancy | Galway 2020 Seeking Board Members from the Cultural Sector

Deadline for applications: Monday 4 September, 4pm

Since securing the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) in July 2016, the Galway 2020 team has been working hard to build the organisation and structures required to deliver this landmark project for the city and county. As outlined in the Galway 2020 Bid Book, a Company Limited by Guarantee (Galway Cultural Development and Activity CLG) has been incorporated with its clearly defined function being the delivery of the ECOC in Galway in 2020, as well as ensuring that a strong legacy follows from the designation. The Company has registered the trading name β€˜Galway 2020’.

The company’s intention is to provide a governance and management structure that is an exemplar of best practice in corporate governance, not for profit, truly representative of wide interests, transparent, independent, effective, and accountable at every level.

The first open call for expressions of interest in Board membership was launched in March 2017 and it is expected that a number of Directors will shortly be appointed from this first call with skill sets in the areas of Law, Governance, Audit, Marketing & Communications, Broadcasting, Digital and Language.

In order to ensure that there is an appropriate balance of skills on the Board, and in particular, to ensure that there is a strong presence and perspective from the Cultural Sector, the Company has launched this second call for expressions of interest. It is envisaged that 2 Board positions will be filled from this second call.

This Call seeks individuals with skills and experience in Culture having regard also to gender, diversity, and age balance.

Furthermore, the following qualities and competencies would be advantageous:

1. Experience, and proven track record – in addition to any discipline skills – of strategic thinking and planning.
2. Evidence of, and commitment to, collaborative and interdisciplinary working both at discipline and strategic levels.

Board appointments will be skills and experience based, and should the open call process not yield candidates with the required skills and experience, the company reserves the right to make direct appointments of suitable individuals.

Board membership will be drawn from across the city, county and all Ireland, although a connection to Galway would be an advantage.
