Tuning In, Being Moved | A Butoh-inspired Workshop with Jessica Cottee at Outhouse, Dublin

In this half-day workshop, youโ€™ll be introduced to elements of Butoh dance, especially the idea of the water bag body. When we are relaxed and tuned in to our body, we can follow its impulses and give them expression. Connecting with your inner world, weโ€™ll allow dances to manifest from stillness. No previous experience necessary.

Butoh is a form of Dance Theatre from Post World War II Japan that rejects traditional notions of modern dance. Using transformation โ€“ one of the most important elements of Butoh โ€“ the body plays with qualities, surreal themes and androgynous forms with total disregard to the intentional creation of โ€˜beautifulโ€™ movements; instead dancers express raw human conditions. Movement in Butoh starts deep inside the flesh and bones until it breaks on the skin of the dancer, as the unconscious finds its expression into consciousness. Butoh can support and enhance the artistโ€™s process.
