The Sugar Factory studios is a proposed new temporary independent art space facility that will operate in Carlow town over this July-August. They are currently in the process of applying for funding and are seeking support from the creative community in realising this ambitious project. They are preliminarily accepting proposals for the ‘Dissolve’ residency project , in which they will be selecting emerging artists to come and work in their studios for six weeks this summer.
The Sugar Factory studios is named after one of Carlow’s historic landmarks and in honour of Carlow’s renowned spirit of production. In this name they are seeking artists who wish to challenge their concepts and processes actively in studio through testing, experimentation and producing – whether the end results are failed or successful.
If successful, the studios will operate as a fluid and experimental space which invites artists of all disciplines and backgrounds to utilise and create an environment where all creatives can exchange ideas, network, research, collaborate, produce, perform and display.
The Sugar Factory studios will be situated in the heart of Carlow town; easily accessible to all local amenities and is especially close to local libraries, museums, hospitals and The Visual Centre for Contemporary Art/ George Bernard Shaw Theatre.
The studios will also open for weekly ‘event nights’ such as – film screenings, open mic nights, artist talks, poetry readings, discussion events and workshops.
If you would be interested in collaborating/performing at one of the event nights, are interested in applying for the Dissolve residency, or would just like to be kept up to date on the progress of the project please contact Victoria Callinan: email@example.com
