Speaking of which…Jessica Kelly and David Berman | The Dock, Co. Leitrim

Saturday 28 April, 2pm

First in a series of talks at The Dock. These get-togethers are one hour talks between artists, researchers, curators, policy makers and philosophers. Informal and informative, we have four events in the first series this spring.

Jessica Kelly is a visual artist based in Leitrim. In winter 2017 she hosted The Waiting Room, an experimental salon series at the old railway station in Mohill. Her work is informed by philosophies of technology, dance and spirit, and utilises video, installation, text, and performance. Collaboration and discourse are also frequent features of her practise. Present interests include the spectral image, commemoration and after-death existences.

Kelly graduated from Fine Art Media at the National College of Art & Design (Ireland) in 2007 and from 2009-10 was a resident artist of Daghdha Dance Company, Limerick. In 2011 she moved to Belgium and in 2014 completed her Masters in Fine Art Multimedia at KASK School of Arts, Ghent. From 2015-16 she was a member of Ormond Studios, an artist-led initiative in Dublin city. She currently lives and works in Mohill.

David Berman is a Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin. His books include A History of Atheism in Britain, Routledge 1990, George Berkeley: Idealism and the Man, OUP 1994 and Berkeley: Experimental Philosophy, Phoenix Books 1997. More recently, he has done fascinating work on ideas and beliefs about the after-life, as well as developing a philosophy of coffee.

This is a free event but we would ask that you book in advance so that we have the right amount of seating available to accommodate everyone comfortably.
