Speaking of which… Áine Macken-Walsh and Deirdre O’Mahony | The Dock, Co. Leitrim

Saturday 12 May, 2:00pm

These get-togethers at The Dock are one hour talks between artists, researcher, curators, policy makers and philosophers. Informal and informative, this is the second of four events in the first series this spring.

Speaking of Áine Macken-Walsh is a Research Officer at Teagasc’s Rural Economy and Development Programme (REDP). Her primary interests are in cultural sociology with a specific focus on agriculture. Áine’s research activity is centred on exploring the socio-cultural dimensions of questions such as farm-level disease management; joint farming ventures. She is Adjunct Lecturer at the School of Political Science and Sociology, NUI Galway

Deirdre O’Mahony’s research and practice is grounded in engagement with different publics and communities. In 2007 she revived a defunct rural post-office as a public space, X-PO, to reflect the complex social, psychological, economic and natural issues affecting rural life and landscapes. Subsequent projects include SPUD which examines ideas of sustainability, food security and rural/urban relationships, through potato projects in Ireland, USA, Spain and the UK. O’Mahony has published and been written about extensively, had numerous exhibitions, fellowships and residencies including a Pollock-Krasner Award.

This is a free event but we would ask that you book in advance so that we have the right amount of seating available to accommodate everyone comfortably.
