Procession | Artist Talk with Gerry Davis at Galway Arts Centre

22 January 2019, 5:30 to 6:30pm.

Limerick based artist Gerry Davis will give a public talk on his solo exhibition ‘Procession’, currently exhibited in Galway Arts Centre. This free talk will look at the artist’s process, areas of research and technique. All are welcome to attend.

‘Procession’ is an exhibition of work produced since 2017 chronicling a dreamlike progression through ideas associated with painting, identity and the subjective obstacles encountered by a contemporary practicing artist.

Gerry Davis was born in Cahir, Co Tipperary in 1985 and studied at the Limerick School of Art and Design from 2005 to 2009. Since then he has maintained a full-time studio practice which has constantly changed and evolved over the years. He has been a member of Wickham St Studios in Limerick since it’s foundation and has exhibited throughout the country, including solo shows at TACTIC in Cork and The Source Arts Centre, Thurles. He has won a merit prize twice at the Golden Fleece Award and in 2016 he won the Hennessy Portrait Prize at the National Gallery. As a result of this he was commissioned to paint the Kilkenny Hurler, Henry Shefflin for the NGI’s Portrait Collection.
