Per Cent for Art Commissions | Wexford County Council

Wexford County Council under the Per Cent for Art Scheme invites submissions for three public art commissions valued at €20,000 each.Β These three commissions will be awarded under a Two Stage Open Competition to take place Sept 2018 – Sept 2019.

The focus of these commissions are on socially engaged and/or co-authored artistic productions which involves professional artists producing work in collaboration with local communities of place or interest. The work must respond to the local context in a meaningful way and take place over a period of time.

The commission can be in any art form or combination of art forms i.e. Visual art, film, writing, theatre, music, sound, traditional arts and must involve a public artistic output at the end. This output could be a performance, exhibition, book, film screening, reading, sculptural installation etc. where members of the public and local communities can be involved and/or attend.

The focus of the commission is on the creation of new and original artwork(s) and/ or events that involve meaningful collaboration with local communities. Experimental ways of working with communities of place or interest is actively encouraged as is innovation and excellence in artistic practice.

Artists are not expected to have identified a community partners or host at Stage One of the application process. In Stage Two the shortlisted artists will fully develop their proposals and Wexford Arts Office and the Municipal District managers will assist them in making contact and establishing relationships with people from existing community groups, arts organisations, voluntary groups and individual in the areas identified in the brief.

Stage 1:
Stage one requires the following:
1. Completed application form and checklist.
2. CV ( max 3 pages)
3. A statement of Interest i.e. initial thoughts on how you would approach the
commission from an artistic and community engagement point of view. This is not a
proposal. (500 words max).
4. Examples of previous art work 5-6 relevant examples of your previous work with
one separate page clearly listing: medium, context, year, etc.

Stage 2:
Stage Two will comprise of a limited competition with up to ten artists shortlisted from Phase One invited to develop proposals for the commission. Each will be paid €700 on completion and presentation of proposal.

The selection panel will include nominees from Wexford County Council: Arts Office, Municipal Districts, an independent artist, public art curators and community representatives.
