Per Cent for Art Commission | Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí, Athlone

The Board of Management of Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí, Athlone wishes to commission site specific public artwork under the “Per Cent for Art Scheme”, funded by the Department of Education and Science. Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí is a co-educational Catholic primary school which caters for pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth class. The school serves the town of Athlone and is situated in Lissywollen, near Brawny, Westmeath.

The total budget for the project is €38,000 inclusive of VAT. This includes all costs associated with the project inclusive of materials, artist’s/consultant fees, design development, insurance, supply and installation, signage, travel, and any other costs incurred in the production of the artwork/s. The artist will be responsible for meeting all of these costs out of the total budget allocated.

Site visits will be arranged on: Thursday 3 May

A selection panel consisting of: a member of the Board of Management of Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí, a pupil of the school, a representative of the teaching staff, a local artist and a parent will choose the successful submission. If there is difficulty finalising the decision, there will be a short-list compiled and those artists will be asked to make a presentation to the panel. There will be an honorarium paid to short-listed artists to cover presentation expenses including travel.

If necessary, a shortlist of artists will be compiled. A fee of €500 may be paid to shortlisted artists if further work is required to prepare a more detailed submission. The shortlisted artists may also be invited to present/develop their proposals in a way that will be easily accessible to staff and pupils
