Encounters is offering a £25k contract for an exceptional individual or team to lead on the design and build of Chrysalis, a project funded by Arts Council England to create an environmentally sustainable mobile, community, arts and learning space in collaboration with communities across Torbay and South Devon.
Those tendering must have a strong track record of delivering creative design and build projects on time, (this could include public art commissions as well as social innovation or other projects) on budget and to specification. Experience of working in partnership with a range of stakeholders, is essential. Knowledge and experience of ecological / sustainable design is also required alongside a passionate commitment to, and experience of, creatively engaging communities in a design and build process.
Encounters are looking to work with an individual or team who are excited by:
the creative challenge of designing and building an inspiring, useful, loved mobile resource for Encounters and the people of South Devon and Torbay and beyond.
the opportunity to work with Encounters and community engagement professionals to design and oversee a meaningful co-design and co-production programme which reflects the vision that Chrysalis ‘be made by the hands and imaginations of people living in South Devon and Torbay’.
the idea of Chrysalis as a way to embody and connect people to the natural environment and some of the ecological challenges we face.

Shortlisted applicants from Stage 1 will be invited to attend an interview / meeting with the Chrysalis team in Totnes on 24 July.
The deadline for Stage 2 submissions is midnight 3 September with pitches taking place in Totnes on 6 September. A fee of £500 will be payable to each successful individual / team successful at Stage 1 to support preparation of Stage 2 submissions.
