Open Call | Port – River – City Short Film Commission, Dublin Port

Application deadline: 13 September, 5pm.

The Little Museum of Dublin and Dublin Port have announced a new Irish film prize with a commissioning fee of €20,000 to produce a new short film that will be seen by over 100,000 visitors to the Little Museum in 2019.

Named “The Dublin Port Short Film Prize 2019”, this new commissioning project in association with Screen Ireland will give artists and filmmakers a unique platform to showcase their work at the museum in telling the story of Dublin.

Up to eight minutes long, the “Port Short” will celebrate the city of Dublin, highlighting aspects of our culture and heritage that separate the city from other capitals in Europe. Both enlightening and entertaining, the film will enhance public understanding of the city’s evolution as well as provide an amusing introduction to Dublin today.

To apply for Port Short 2019, new, experienced and up-and-coming filmmakers are invited to submit expressions of interest as part of a competitive process. Applicants are required to submit the following:

  • Entire script (and, if desired, an optional story board)
  • Sample of previous film work (via Dropbox / YouTube)
  • An approximate budget and timeline for the project
  • Information about the team involved, e.g. a CV (max. 2 additional pages per individual)

Application submissions and queries can be sent to portshort@littlemuseum.ie. The winning filmmaker will be announced in September 2018.

For each of the next five years, in partnership with the Little Museum, Dublin Port will commission a short film about Dublin on the theme of port – river – city, in keeping with its arts commissioning programmes to date, which include Dublin Ships, Port Perspectives and Starboard Home, as well as the restoration of the Diving Bell on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay. “Port Short” further fulfils Dublin Port’s commitment under its Masterplan 2040 to achieving closer integration between the Port and the City and people of Dublin through cultural, community, environmental and heritage initiatives that enhance the strong ties between the port, river and city.
