The goal of the program is to provide artists – based in Europe or the Mediterranean countries – with free time. Time to think, to experiment, to finish that book that remains unread for months, to listen to music, to untangle complicated thoughts. It’s also an opportunity to interact, to communicate with the people and the city of Kavala. There is no requirement to produce during their stay and no final outcome is expected. The only exception a public talk in a cultural centre in the city that the artist will participate in.
Furthermore the artist will be asked to produce one new artwork within six months after the end of their program, inspired by their time in Kavala that will become part of the archive of the residency, and be in public display freely accessible to all.
The residency includes accommodation in a private room in the five star hotel Lucy, breakfast and two daily meals in the hotel’s restaurant, economy flights to and from the country of residence and a per diem of 25 Euros for personal expenses. For the production of the artwork following the residency a 400 Euro Artist Fee will be paid and up to 400 Euro production budget provided.
