Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council (CCGBC) is requesting expressions of interest for a new public artwork from experienced and suitably qualified artists or design teams for a Public Art commission, Shaping Our Place, Dungiven. The public artwork will be located at Dungiven. At the time of advertisement, the total budget available for the artwork is £25K exclusive of Vat. All amounts are exclusive of VAT to be charged where applicable at the standard rate.
The Shaping Our Place project is funded through the Peace 4 programme. CCGBC has engaged with the local community group who have identified a site for the artwork installation along the Main Street in Dungiven. The main road is a busy thoroughfare through the town. The site is an area of hard landscaping on the access into public carpark. The site is owned by CCGBC.
The artwork is to be situated at the open public space adjacent to the Dungiven Credit Union Building.

The purpose of Stage 1 is to invite Expressions of Interest applications from artists/design teams. A Public Art Selection Panel convened by CCGBC will short list a maximum of six artists/design teams to work up detailed design proposals in Stage 2.
Stage 1 – Expressions of Interest submission requirements
All applicants should submit three copies of their entire application to include:
- The artist’s criteria submission demonstrating relevant experience of successfully delivering other similar public artworks. The submission should run to no more than three A4 pages.
- Examples of previous work (not more than 10). Artists can submit both hard copy and CD/DVD representations of their work.
- Names and contact details of two referees as outlined on the Application Form.
Please note: no designs, outlines, sketches or preliminary ideas for the commission are expected at Stage 1.
The short listed artists will be invited to work up detailed design proposals for presentation to the Public Art Selection Panel. Artists short listed for Stage 2 will be notified by 24/04/19 and provided with a further tender brief. Artists will have six weeks to develop Stage 2 proposals.
At Stage 2 an honorarium of £500 per submission will be paid to those artists/design teams successfully short listed and who provide a bona fide tender submission. The honorarium sum is to cover some of the outlay cost to work up a detailed proposal and create a maquette and/or computerised 3-D model.
The Public Art Selection Panel will comprise a minimum of three members (whose remits will include arts and regeneration). These members may comprise representatives from the Arts Council of NI, CCGBC, the Community Association and an independent Artist.
