The “Young Talent Prize”, Prize of the World Crafts Council-Europe of € 3,000 will be awarded to a young artist displaying excellence in the realisation of a piece of work through the manipulation of materials.
Both prizes will be awarded on the basis of artistic and technical skill and demonstrate originality and innovation in response to the theme “Monumentality – Fragility”. The theme is selected to coincide with an exhibition devoted to Niki de Saint-Phalle at the Art Museum of Mons. De Saint-Phalle’s work can be described as both monumental and fragile, the strong colour palette, exuberant proportions, the power and the violence allude to a monumental character from which a palpable fragility is released.
