Application deadline May 3rd 5.30pm.
Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival (August 2nd -10th) have two exhibiting opportunities.
1 Ghost Light – refers to will-o’-the-wisp, a flame-like phosphorescence caused by gases from decaying organic matter. Also a light that is left on the stage of a theatre when the theatre is empty and would otherwise be completely dark.
Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival are seeking submissions of light based art works to form an exhibition in a dark venue that will be open during the afternoons and again at night as part of a Light Trail. These can include free standing works, wall based works , and video. The venue is the vaulted basement of the old Maltings in Birr, and you should take the constraints of this building into account, while responding to its character.
This exhibition will extend the themes of Heritage and Light established last year by the introduction of video mapped building illuminations during the festival.
The venue has standard power supply.
2 Visual Arts Trail – Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival are also seeking submissions from artists to exhibit in a variety of venues throughout the town. They are looking for work that has an element of accessibility while providing a scaffolding into more challenging practices, that fits the above theme of Heritage and Light. The nature of the venues (empty shop units) means that they don’t know the amount of work that they will be able to host until very close to the date. A small number of definite exhibitions will be awarded, with a short list of artists who are willing to exhibit at short notice. Please indicate whether you are prepared to be included on this list.
Contact email@example.com for application forms.
Please note: Artists fee for the Arts Trail exhibitions is €200 and for the Ghost Light exhibitions there will be an artist fee of €50 for each artist. Artists will be expected to be onsite for installation / take down but arrangements can be agreed on. The artists do not have to invigilate but are encouraged to be present for some of the time as there is a tradition of interaction with the artists. There is no commission charged on sale of work.
