A self-directed, open-source artist residency to empower and inspire artists who are also mothers.
You don’t have to apply. It doesn’t cost anything, it’s fully customisable, and you can be in residence for as long as you choose. You don’t even have to travel, the residency takes place entirely inside your own home and everyday life. An Artist Residency in Motherhood is the reframing of parenthood as a valuable site for creative practice, rather than an obstruction to be overcome.
On their website you can read more about how the residency began, become an artist-in-residence-in-motherhood, nominate an artist/parent for a unique grant called The Red Thread, or join the mentorship program.
The Red Thread is an experimental granting structure for artist/parents. Artists/parents in need apply to receive $999 to use in any way they like to support their own creative work. Then, once they have the means, they pass the exact same amount of money along to a different artist/parent of their choosing. This could be weeks, months or years later. A Red Thread can be begun by anybody, and each separate strand continues indefinitely along its own timeline. See website to apply for an existing Red Thread grant administered by An Artist Residency in Motherhood.
Artist Residency in Motherhood have an open source D.I.Y kit to help you plan, structure and carry out your very own Artist Residency in Motherhood.
