Application deadline: 21 February
Awards are given for a period of one year, and during that time the artist is encouraged to pursue new directions in their work that explore ideas in technology and culture. Preference is given to projects that are speculative in nature and provide opportunities for public engagement, through crowd-sourcing, talks, demonstrations, maker events, or performance.
The purpose of the Art + Technology Lab is to nurture new work with financial and in-kind support for projects that engage emerging technology.
Art + Technology Lab grants are open to individuals and collectives located anywhere in the world. Grants may provide financial support of up to $50,000 per project to cover artist fees and direct costs, including materials. Recipients may also receive in-kind support, such as mentorship, coaching, advice, and exposure to technologies in development at partner organizations, including Hyundai, Accenture, Google, and SpaceX, as well as independent artists and academics working in art and technology from Jet Propulsion Laboratory, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and elsewhere.
To date, 20 artists from around the world, including Ghana, Ireland, Korea, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, have received awards through the Art + Technology Lab.
