Application deadline: Monday 5 March, 2pm
Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) has announced an Open Call to artists based in Ireland to submit proposals for an exhibition entitled “A Better Place”, to take place at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) later this year. This annual exhibition, curated by WHAT, aims to use original artworks to make UHW a better place for all: patients, visitors and staff.
Now in its third year, the “A Better Place” exhibition has grown each year, with 43 entries received in 2017. Artists are invited to submit two samples of their work to be considered and voted on for a full solo exhibition. These samples will be displayed at the hospital for a period of four weeks and all who view them will have an opportunity to submit their vote via a voting card. Artists are not identified during the selection process.
The artist whose work receives the highest number of votes is then invited to present a full solo exhibition in June, for two months. Votes are encouraged on the basis of the aesthetic quality of the work and the positive impact it makes on the viewer, which is in keeping with the theme of the exhibition.
- Artist fees are based on VAI Artist Payment Guidelines
- Works are covered by WHAT insurance
- WHAT arrange an opening reception for the launch of the exhibition, which is open to the public. They promote the exhibition widely in the Waterford media and have had a very good turnout in the two years the exhibition has been running
- If the artist is not based locally, WHAT will provide accommodation for the installation and exhibition launch, and will contribute towards their travel and transport of artworks costs.
