Modernism, Gender, Space in Swanzys Paintings | Lecture with Louise Wallace at IMMA
Wednesday 5 December, 18.30 to 19.30.
IMMA is delighted to invite you to a lecture by Louise Wallace, artist and Associate Lecturer, Belfast School of Art, who will discuss themes of gender, interior space, domesticity and women’s labour as key characteristics of Mary Swanzy’s painting practice and the renewed interest in her work.
In response to the exhibition Mary Swanzy, Voyages, Wallace will position Swanzy’s oeuvre within the developments of Modernism and the avant-garde’s liking for travel. Swanzy’s feminine gaze will be read alongside the contemporary concerns of female painters working today. Book your free place at the link below.
