MAKE 2019 Symposium: Making and Materiality at CIT Crawford College of Art and Design

Saturday 9 March.

Hosted by the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, MAKE 2019 will be our sixth in a series of annual Symposia that explore issues of making. MAKE 2019 will honour the centenary of the Bauhaus legacy of material sensitivity and tactility with a focus on the physical matter of our making.  Join us to meet, listen to, and dialogue with our great lineup of guests.  Tickets must be booked online at CIT EVENTS and we always sell out, so book soon!

Programme of speakers:

o  Dr. Zoe Laughlin: Co-Director of Institute of Making at University College London; BBC presenter of science programming;
o  Fritz Horstman: Artist Residency and Education Coordinator at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut;
o   Beili Liu: Chinese/American textile artist and lecturer at University of Texas at Austin;
o   Susanne Jøker Johnsen: Danish glass artist and educator based in Copenhagen;
o   Helle Helsner: Cork-based metal artist and teacher.

Fritz Horstman will also open our MAKE 2019 exhibition, TOUCH, at 6:00 just after the Symposium, in the CIT CCAD Gallery at 46 Grand Parade, Cork, This show runs until 30 March 2019. TOUCH is created by selected textile students of CIT Crawford College of Art and Design; Pallas University of Applied Arts; and Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania in an exchange project inspired by the ethos of Anni Albers who championed the tactility and emotional power of cloth.
