IMMA is delighted to invite you to a screening of a new film work Last Breath by artist Marie Brett, followed by a discussion.
Last Breath explores ideas of the ultimate great unknown – the experience of death and dying. The film draws on Brett’s ongoing research into Irish death rituals that explore the space between ‘life and death’, the ‘mind and body’, necromancy and the female supernatural.
A discussion follows with Brett and Patricia Lysaght, Emerita Professor of European Ethnology and Folkloristics, UCD, who explore the traditions, rituals and folklore imagination of the dying experience that is specific to Ireland.
Last Breath follows a residency undertaken by Brett at UCD’s College of Social Science and Law and a participatory project with palliative care and other healthcare staff.
Admission is free but booking is essential: imma.us3.list-manage.com…
