Intro to Letterpress Course at Limerick Printmakers

Send a message loud and clear with LP’s Intro to Letterpress course. Create a bold message with LP’s large format block type or reproduce a favourite quote or verse using finer type.

Letterpress printing is a form of relief printmaking traditionally used to print books.
For LP’s Intro to Letterpress course, we will concentrate on developing participant’s basic knowledge and experience of typesetting through preparing and printing their messages.

This course is aimed at a variety of people – from those with no experience of printmaking through to those developing their skills. LP has two presses plus a range of type in various fonts and sizes to maximize your creative choices.

This course will incorporate:
• Studio health & safety/best practice
• Step by step guidance & assistance with selecting your chosen type/font & composing your overall image
• Correct use of the letterpress – safety, inking up, image registration, troubleshooting
• Printing multiples of your image

The focus of this introductory course is to impart every step of the process to participants and to provide ample time for making for making notes/asking questions. Images will be A5 size.
Each participant will leave with multiple copies of their completed print.

Brian Fitzgerald is a highly experienced printmaker, artist and qualified teacher. He is also co-founder/co-director of Parallel Editions, a fine art print editioning company based in Limerick city.
