6 to 28 October 2017
This exhibition by Frances Ryan celebrates the garden as a place hospitable to the exercise of reverie, memory and imagination through a series of large and small scale semi-abstract oil paintings that reimagine the botanical garden. Natural forms are pushed through a process of layering and sanding back, combined with observational drawings and spontaneous mark-making.
Frances Ryan graduated from IADT Dublin (1997) and has won numerous awards, including the Paul Henry Landscape Prize at the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition (2006 and 2014) and the Towry Award for Best Work from Northern Ireland at the NOA Competition, Somerset House & Chichester, UK (2014 & 2015). This year she has exhibited work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.
