First Irish | Exhibition, Publication Launch and Roundtable Discussion at Irish National Heritage Park

The Irish National Heritage Park in partnership with Wexford County Council and Creative Ireland invites you to the launch of “First Irish” a photographic exhibition, book launch and a round table discussion, on Sunday 3rd February at 4pm in the Heritage Park.
The event is the culmination of a project where Photojournalist Claudio Nego spent time alongside ethical hunter Neil Motherway, who is one of many crafters that work in the National Heritage Park. During his time spent with Neil, Claudio was drawn to the emergence of the first society on our shores and began to think about the lessons that we could learn from the ‘first Irish’ in terms of equality, co-operation, resource sharing and humanity. Neil is a hunter and a former vegetarian, his approach to the hunt and the respect he gives his quarry reflects some of the ethos of early hunter-gatherer society. Archeologist Dr. Stephen Mandal will take part in the roundtable discussion and consider what the Mesolithic/Neolithic world was like for those who inhabited it.
This is the second part of a project that has been made possible by funding from Creative Ireland and Wexford County Council. The first part was entitled ‘Sounding Seams’ and was collaboration between musician Laura Hyland and blacksmith Guy Urbin.
This is a free event and will take place in the AV room at the Irish National Heritage Park.
