Born in Caledon, Co. Tyrone in 1957, Maurice Hobson was injured in a bomb-blast in Dungannon in 1975 and sadly passed away in 1987, aged just 30 years old. The 1975 bomb left Maurice with facial disfigurement and other medical complications that, alongside the continuing violence of The Troubles, were to heavily influence his artistic practice later in life. This series of compelling, unapologetically discomfiting self-portraits, are a deliberate and uncomfortable reminder of the human casualties of ideological violence.
