Paul McKinley will be discussing his research and subject matter in conversation with Kevin Kavanagh at the gallery next Thursday.
While McKinley’s paintings are verdant, luscious and easy to enjoy visually, they also incorporate meticulous and wide ranging modes of research. Art Critic Aidan Dunne has summarised the exhibition in a recent article published by the Irish Times,
‘Paul McKinley’s exhibition amounts to a portrait of a Greece of the imagnination hence the reference to the mythological afterlife […] he equally has in mind Greece in the 21st century, a site of economic woe and, at the same time, a hospitable staging post for desperate refugees and migrants. The landscape becomes a vehicle for exploring what is beyond the immediately visible and familiar’.
