Wandesford Quay CLG selected Irish, London-based artist Marianne Keating to create a work addressing the historical, architectural, symbolic and/or social features of Wandesford Quay in Cork city centre. Keating is working on a film exploring the social dimension of Wandesford Quay through an archival examination of the unrecorded biography of this former warehouse’s workers, excavating subaltern narratives of trade and labour.
This commission takes place in the context of a Per Cent for Art scheme, and is part of a capital project funded by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Cork City Council and Wandesford Quay CLG. Selectors included Mary McCarthy, director of the Crawford Art Gallery, and representatives of Cork Printmakers and Backwater Artists Group. The project’s curator is Miguel Amado, director of Cork Printmakers.
