Commission | Dublin’s Local Heroes Project, Dublin’s Culture Connects

Closing date for applications: 6 March

Dublin’s Culture Connects are seeking expressions of interest from artists and creative professionals working in any artform or medium (as long as it can be digitised) to engage with our ‘Local Heroes’ and their stories to create portraits that can be digitally mapped on our Dublin City Cultural Map.

Portraits’ could be likenesses, blogs, visual or sound representations, recorded interviews or any combinations of these. Applications are open to all art forms. This project will require a reciprocal creative process between artist and participant. This may mean that the proposed ‘portrait’ will be a shared creative expression.

Artists will be supported in all practical and logistical aspects of the project by Dublin’s Culture Connects team, such as introductions to participants and providing access to appropriate interview transcripts, reports and materials that will inform the ‘portraits’ as well as general office support, logistics etc.

Dublin’s Culture Connects expect to commission each artist to capture the ‘portraits’ of a minimum of three participants. The three participants for the portraits can be provided by us, or, if agreed, the artist may wish to add a ‘Local Hero’ of their own. Additional ‘portraits’ may be awarded subject to an agreed additional fee.

Fee for project delivery: €3,000 in total for three portraits. Projects must be completed by April 2018.

To apply, please send:

  • A concise up-to-date CV that includes links to previous work, portfolio, website etc.
  • A brief 1-page statement outlining:
    1) your suitability for this project
    2) your ideas for approaching this commission and your possible methodological approach (these will serve as a starting point for the project process)

Applications will be assessed and shortlisted on the basis of the information received by a selection panel that will include representation from Dublin’s Culture Connects, Dublin City Council as well as independent artists.
