This workshop with with Jane Stark is designed for those who have some experience in the basics of botanical art and flower painting and would like to further develop their skills through an intensive five days of drawing and painting. Emphasis is on individual tuition and allowing students to work at their own pace and level of experience. Handouts on relevant topics will be available each day. Participants will begin by doing a series of sketches of a chosen plant and its component parts, making careful observation of important characteristics. A stereoscopic microscope will be available for examining details. Using colored pencils or watercolor, color charts relevant to the chosen plant will be added to the study page. There will also be a chance to practice various techniques to be employed in the final painting. An accurate drawing of the plant will then be developed, using the information gathered on the study page, with thought being given to composition, light and shade, color balance, inclusion of important identifying characteristics, etc. This drawing will form the basis for a finished painting on watercolor paper.
