Exhibition Opening: Thursday 6 September, 7pm – 9pm Driven to understand the lasting effects of an early childhood trauma, Robert P. Ryan invokes ghostly figures as the representation of an absence. Seeking to make these intangible influences flesh, Ryan’s oil paintings attempt to manifest something ungraspable. By giving elusive feelings a physical form in stifled poses, simplified compositions and colouring reminiscent of hand-painted photographs; these paintings display a firm connection to photography and the aesthetic of its infancy.
