This 6 week course is ideal for those looking to start their exploration into the art of drawing and painting the figure. Atelier realist methods focus on training artists in fundamental techniques of draughtsmanship and painting and is a proven way to bring artists’ ability to new levels. The instructor is Nicholas Robinson, a graduate and award winner of the Florence Academy of Art, Sweden.

Figure Drawing: Morning Session (10:00 – 12:30)
In the morning session students will learn to draw from the figure in pencil or charcoal. The instruction aims to enable the artist to use line, tone and contour to develop a greater accuracy in thier drawing ability. The overall goal is for the artist to see their drawing as a unified whole as opposed to a collection of parts and details.

Figure Painting: Afternoon Session (13:30 – 16:00)
During the afternoon painting session, students are introduced to the fundamentals of figure-painting in oil paint. Nick will instruct in the visual method: translating what we observe from life into oil painting on the canvas. We will explore the materials involved, some theory and preparation for the model. Instruction is based on the student’s seeing, mixing and painting accurate colours on the model which best describe the light, form and gesture of the model. The rest of the course will be comprised of working from the nude in one 15 hour painting.
