Alla Prima Portrait with Tony Robinson at Dunmore East School of Art, Waterford

4 days in an airy studio by the sea, drawing and painting portraits from live models. In this course, using shorter sittings, we will seek to simplify the portrait process to give a good basis for achieving a solid form and capturing a likeness. The course will cover posing and lighting the sitter, proportion, chiaroscuro (light and shade), mixing flesh colours, brushwork and edges. With daily demonstrations and discussions, a variety of models both male and female and use of the studio in the evenings, we will cover a lot of work on a very enjoyable course in portraiture. Demonstrations will be in conte crayon or in oil paints. Students should be familiar with their materials but otherwise the course is suitable for a range of experience from relative beginner to advanced.
